آنالیز حرارتی عبارت است از اندازه گیری تغییراتی که با افزایش دما در ویژگی های فیزیکی مواد پدید می آید.
استفاده از آنالیز حرارتی از دو جنبه اساسی اهمیت دارد:
1- شناسایی مواد مخصوصا زمانی که روش هایی مانند آنالیز XRD و یا روش های میکروسکوپی کارایی ندارند
2- بررسی رفتار مواد در زمان افزایش دما
آنالیز TGA:
این روش ساده ترین روش آنالیز حرارتی است که بر پایه اندازه گیری وزن نمونه در هنگاه افزایش دما استوار است.
وزن نمونه مورد نیاز در آنالیز TGA تا 200 میلی گرم میباشد. در نمودار آنالیز TGA محور افقی تغییرات دما و محور عمودی تغییر درصد وزنی را نمایش میدهد. زمانی که شیب نمودار منفی شود یعنی نمودار نزولی باشد دما آغاز فرآیند و زمانی که دوباره شیب نمودار صفر گردد و نمودار افقی شود دمای پایان فرآیند است. دمای آغاز و پایان فرآیند به عواملی چون ویژگی های نمونه، شکل و ... بستگی دارد. در صورتی که ماده خالص باشد و هیچ ناخالصی نداشته باشد شیب نمودار تغییر نخواهد و به صورت افقی باقی میماند.
در آنالیز TGA در صورتی که دمای دو رویداد حرارتی نزدیک به هم باشد، در این صورت مشتق منحنی رسم میگردد که به آن DTG میگویند.
